This is what footy is all about!

Yesterday seen the local rugby league community come together  for “A day for Slater” to raise money for Ryan Powell and his family.

Earlier this year Ryan’s sister Kristie passed away in tragic circumstances which left little Slater with out a mum. Ryan his wife Michelle and their 5 kids took on the big task of becoming Slater’s guardians.

Rex Jackson Oval in Helensburgh hosted to the day which was the brain child of Gav Lennon and the Helensburgh club. The money raised will go to the Powell family to help with the cost of raising little Slater.

With a game of footy that seen some of the Illawarra Rugby Leagues greatest line up once again. The Helensburgh club took on a mixture of players from the other 6 Illawarra clubs. Some of the leagues greatest players certainly haven’t lost their touch, with the Burgh taking the victory 10-6.

An auction and a good time took place after the game with a lot of old stories told and plenty of beers drunk.

Well done to all those that took part in the day and to those that organised it along with the Illawarra Rugby league. It just goes to show that comradery is still alive when the full time whistle goes.
