Butchers to face a desperate Corrimal at Fortress Gibbo
In what was absolutely horrendous conditions at Gibson Park last Saturday the Butchers put the Canaries to the sword and played some great expansive football.
There was only the true butchers supporters out at Gibbo due to the windy and cold conditions, even the Old Boys Can Bar was down on numbers and it was left to Jas Byrne, Ruts, Homer, Cookie and Morgo to keep the bar profitable for the day due to the low numbers and by all reports they did quite well and turned a profit.
The Butchers opened the account early with a Try under the sticks to the tireless number 13 Mick Morris from a Jake Walsh kick, and they didn’t really take their foot off the gas the whole game winning quite easy 36-14. (How good was the miss kick from Gal when the ball fell of the kicking tee)
The running game of Jake Walsh was back to its best as he took the line on a number of times and left the Dapto defence questioning whether he would kick, pass or run.
Thirroul were left with minimum numbers on the bench with Coach Costello down to 15 men for most of the second half the likes of Jarrod Whitty and Joel Ruskin playing huge minutes.
Whitty was man of the match in what was a huge effort from the back rower who plays well above his weight each week. Ruskin was huge up the middle making great meters and allowing Jono to play off the back of that.
Well done to all 3 grades winning last week it was a massive effort in the conditions.
This week Corrimal will be at their most desperate as another loss would possibly see them slip to far away from 4th place and they can start looking at flight centre catalogues for their trip away. Thirroul won’t want to be too cocky going into this one the local derby always has feeling in it, and their last encounter being a landslide win the Cougars will be looking for redemption.
I personally think that the Butchers will put a cricket score on Corrimal this week being too big and too strong. Get down to Gibson park this Saturday as there is only a hand full of home games left.
M.O.M – Luke Dodge
First Try Scorer – Tommy Simpson
Good Luck to all grades this weekend
