Player signing – Josh Starling

The Butchers would like to welcome Josh Starling to the club for the up coming season.

Josh is a local of the area growing up in Woonona and playing his junior footy for the Helensburgh Tigers before signing with the South Sydney rabbitohs to play U20’s in 2009 – 2010

Starling then move north in 2011 to continue his career in the Queensland Cup before returning to the Rabbitohs the next season, where he made his NRL debut for the famous club. 2013 seen Josh sign a 3 year deal with the Manly sea eagles, playing 60 games in the top grade before finishing his career in 2017 with the Newcastle Knights

Thirroul coach Jarrod Costello is excited to have another big bopper at the club to partner the likes of Tim Grant and Damion Sironin in the pack.

“Getting Josh on board has taken some time as I initially got in touch with him at the end of 2017 when he finished his NRL career at the Newcastle Knights but he moved out west where he was captain coach of Oberon” Costello said 

“We kept in touch over the last few years and when Josh was planning on moving his family back to Wollongong we met up and have been fortunate enough to have him sign with the Butchers in 2021.” 

“Josh will bring a heap of experience, quality and leadership to our team and he will be a great addition to our forward pack that will include the likes of Tim Grant, captain Damien Sironen and 2020 Players Player & Player of the Year, Ryan Fletcher.” 

“2021 is shaping up well with returning players such as Riley Lord, Luke Dodge, Luke Gallagher, Hayden Crosland, Riley Graham, Nelson Sharp, Scott Galeano, Cooper & Jye Bowen, Tarje Whitford, Chris Slater-Raptis, Kaleb Hocking, Ammon Cairney and Blake Higgins will be back after missing 2020 with injury.”

The club will recommence pre season training for the up 2021, Tuesday 12th January 6pm at Gibson Park.
