After a scrappy win last week against Corrimal to remain undefeated in season 2021 the Butchers will have their hardest test to date against Collies who are yet to taste defeat this season.
Collies who in round 1 grinded out a nice win against Wests, went on to put a cricket score on Dapto in round 2 and stamp them selves as the team to beat this season.
The Butchers who have blooded some young talent in the first 2 rounds will again have to rely heavily on them who will face their biggest test in Illawarra First Grade against a very polished Collies outfit.
Young Gun butcher Toby Boothroyd has been called into the Butchers Presidents cup side after only 1 game back for Thirroul’s 1st Division side since a stint for The Cronulla Sharks SG ball side. With Cronulla’s SG Ball side not making the semi finals Toby is back where it all began at Thirroul until the Sharks send a S.O.S to assist them in Flegg. With Boothroyd in the mix this adds to the strike power of the Butchers pack.
The battle of both forward packs will be an epic encounter as collies have been so dominant up the middle and been heavily supported by there edge forwards who have been running amuck. But if there is one pack in this competition that’s able to put them in there place it will be the big mobile pack that the home side poses. Coach Jarrod Costello will be leaning on the likes of ex NRL forwards Josh Starling who was outstanding last week against Corrimal and man mountain Frank Winterstein to lead the charge up front.
Damien Sironen who is one of the best kick pressure players in this competition will have to do what he does best and leave his face print on the chest of the Collegians number 7 every time he kicks the ball as he has 3 40/20 to his name already this season.
The stage is set for this to be one of the most mouth-watering clashes of the season as The Butchers will need every bit of support to pack both the hills and the Aaron Beath Stand to ensure the visiting side get a out of town reception for the full 80 mins.
Beers at Club Thirroul will taste a lot better with a Victory over Collies for all the Players and Supporters.
Petty’s Predictions:
1st Try Scorer – Damien Sironen
Man Of The Match – Ryan Fletcher (2 in a row)
Best on Ground – Cheech Sellers at the Old boys Can Bar (2 weeks running, he didn’t disappoint last week)
Score – Butchers to win by 2
Best of Luck to all Teams this week
