Pett’s Preview – Butchers travel up the sea- cliff bridge for the Northern Derby

Butchers travel up the sea- cliff bridge for the Northern Derby

The Butchers this week will face a Helensburgh Tigers side desperate for a win that would go close to them cementing a finals birth. With 3 rounds left of the regular season, both teams are starting to think about finals footy.

Last week the Butchers came away with a comfortable victory over the cougars. The cougars put some fright into the Butchers camp at half time with the visiting side well in the battle when the half time siren sounded.

The half time speech from Coach Costello whipped the Butchers into gear and in the end saw the Butchers come away with a comfortable victory.

Well done to the next generation of butchers players Jackson Bridge who made his first grade debut and Jaymon Tiata and Riley Graham who got there first taste of what it’s like to be selected in the first 15. We have seen Jaymon and Riley Back up for first grade after their stints with reserve grade, but after all three being super impressive this season in the lower grade, Coach Costello rewarded them by selecting them in first grade.

I’m sure we will see plenty more of Jackson, Riley and Jaymon in first grade over the next few seasons.

I really thought the running game of Walshy and Jonno’s work out of dummy half were a feature in Thirroul’s win both players stepped up their game with a few key men missing from the side.

This week its old boys day at Helensburgh, eye of the tiger will be on repeat for the whole day, and every burger will come out with their retro tigers jumper on, to support their team. The Northern derby is always a good clash with not much love between the two sides, both will be looking to get the 2 points.

It’s a very important 2 points for both sides as Thirroul need the win to keep afloat on the top of the table and the Tigers need the will to cement 4th spot.

In what will be a very big home crowd advantage to the Tigers on Saturday I’m leaning towards a Butchers victory. With the inclusion of Jay Gallagher, Ryan Fletcher, Mick Morris, Luke Dodge all back this week The Butchers look to have a full roster on deck.

It’s starting to really look like that Coach Costello will have some hard selection choices over the next few weeks.

M.O.M – Jake Walsh

First Try Scorer – Callum Tatuhua

Good Luck to all 3 grades
